The consensus earnings estimate was $0.82 per share on revenue of $327.7 million for the quarter ending June 30, 2014. The Earnings Whisper number was $0.86 per share. The beat resulted in year-over-year earnings growth of 32.9% and revenue growth of 16.5% - its highest growth rate in several years with revenue accelerating from the 2.8% growth reported last quarter. Consequently, the company also raised its 2014 guidance to earnings of $3.25 to $3.35 per share from its previous range of $3.15 to $3.25 per share and the current consensus estimate of $3.20 per share.

Coach Inc. (COH) reported fourth quarter earnings of $0.59 per share on revenue of $1.14 billion. The consensus earnings estimate was $0.54 per share on revenue of $1.09 billion for the quarter ending June 30, 2014. The Earnings Whisper number was $0.56 per share. American International Group, Inc. (AIG) reported second quarter earnings of $1.25 per share. The consensus earnings estimate was $1.05 per share and the Earnings Whisper number was $1.13 per share for the quarter ending June 30, 2014. The results represent earnings-per-share growth of 11.6% after reporting a year-over-year decline last quarter. In addition, the company announced an additional $2.0 billion share buyback program.

  Tesla Misses (TSLA)

Tesla Motors, Inc. (TSLA) reported second quarter non-GAAP earnings of $0.11 per share with non-GAAP revenue of $857.5 million. GAAP Revenue was $769.3 million. The consensus earnings estimate was $0.04 per share on revenue of $810.6 million for the quarter ending June 30, 2014. The Earnings Whisper number was $0.15 per share. The focus, however, is the deliveries, which came in at 7,579 vehicles. This was above the company's guidance of 7,500 but below whispered expectations. More importantly, the company's guidance for deliveries in the third quarter is 7,800 vehicles, which the company believes should allow it to be "marginally" profitable. Though without the planned factory shutdown, the company expects it would deliver 9,500 vehicles, the expectations were for deliveries of 8,500 vehicles and to earn $0.30 per share on a non-GAAP basis.
